Dallas summers are not just hot; they are structurally violent. Successive 105°F days create a literal heat dome above your ceiling, baking wiring, cracking duct seals, and overwhelming HVAC compressors. Preparation must happen in April, not July.
Soffit Clearance Audit
Ensure old insulation has not slid down and physically blocked your outside soffit vents. If air cannot flow up from the eaves to push the 160°F heat out the roof turbines, the attic will literally bake your house.
Duct Mastic Check
The extreme winter-to-summer expansion cycles pop the silver foil tape off older HVAC duct seams. Paint every joint with a thick coat of waterproof, highly-elastic silver mastic.
Radiant Shielding
If you do not have a radiant barrier stapled to the rafters, install one. Dropping the peak temperature from 145°F down to 110°F is the single greatest mercy you can provide your AC compressor.
